A sun disk with an outspread pair of wings attached, found in Egypt from the 1st Dynasty. It is associated with Horus of Behdet (Edfu), and symbolizes the sun, especially in architecture on ceilings, cornices, and stelae. It was often copied outside Egypt - used in the Levant and by the Hittites, and in Assyria it represented the sun god Shamash and perhaps Ashur. It was adopted by the Achaemenid Persians to represent their chief god Ahuramazda.
