A sheath, combining quiver and bowcase, which was characteristic of the Scythians in the 6th-3rd centuries BC. Fancy ones, covered with golden plaques decorated with artistic relief scenes, are known from the Scythian Kurgans of the 4th century BC, such as Solokha and Chertomlyk. There is a depiction of a gorytos on the famous golden Scythian vase from the Kul'-oba kurgan.
