The ancient name for Prome in Lower Burma, the historical centre of gravity of the Pyus. Here, a Pyu Theravada Buddhist colony existed as early as the 5 th century, and a dynasty of Pyu kings bearing Sanskrit names reigned in the 7th and 8th centuries. The architecture of Srikshetra shows influences from northeastern India and Orissa.
