One of the simplest artifacts, consisting of a narrow metal or bone shaft with a point at one end and usually some sort of decorative head at the other. Its function was to secure garments (ancestral to the fibula) or, sometimes, the hair. Their decorative heads were highly variable and non-functional, therefore a culturally significant feature.
