Egyptian goddess, sister of Isis, Osiris, and Seth, whose wife she was in the Osiris legend. With Isis, referred to one of the 'two kites', screeching birds that sounded like mourning women. She was a protectress of the dead. She was a goddess in the Great Ennead of Heliopolis, but seems to have no cult center or temple of her own. She was said to be the mother of Anubis from a union with Osiris, and the daughter of Nut.
