The largest marae [temple] constructed in Eastern Polynesia, with an 11-stepped pyramidal ahu covering 81 by 22 metres, 13.5 metres high. Constructed by the chieftainess Purea of Papara district, Tahiti, in 1767 and described by Cook, Banks and Wilson in the late 18th century, this structure now has only a few foundation fragments surviving.
