A Late Bronze Age, large bronze musical horn or trumpet, having a double curve and a disk-shaped, permanent mouth. The long curving tube was cast in sections by the lost-wax (cire perdue) method and fit together, ending in a flat metal disk decorated with raised embossing. Lurer come from the peat bogs of Scandinavia and are almost always found in pairs, suggesting that they were votive offerings. Lurer are among the most elaborate products of the European bronzesmith; experiments have shown that they have a surprisingly large musical range.

[plural: lurer]. A large horn of the Late Bronze Age of Northern Europe, with examples from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and north Germany. Lurer are among the most elaborate products of the European bronzesmith, made in sections by the lost wax method (see cire perdue), with a long double-curved body and a disc-shaped mouth. Most finds are of pairs of lurer from peat bogs; these probably repress deposits and it seems most likely that these elaborate instruments were mainly for ceremonial use. Experiments have shown that they have a surprisingly large musical range.
