A Dordogne rock shelter in France, extremely rich in mobiliary art, which is the type site for the Magdalenian - the final West European Upper Palaeolithic industry. First excavated by Edouard Lartet and Henry Christy, the Magdalenian dated from approximately 16,000-10,000 BC. Very numerous carved art pieces have been found with the stone and bone tools.

Beside the Vezere River a few kilometres upstream from Les Eyzies in the Dordogne, southwest France, is the large rock shelter of La Madeleine. First investigated in 1864 by Lartet and Christy, it has become the type locality of the Magdalenian stage or culture. Magdalenian IV to VI layers date from approximately 13,000 to 10,000 be. Very numerous carved art pieces have been found with the stone and bone tools.
