The southernmost commandery of the Han Chinese empire, situated in the central part of present Vietnam. It was in its southernmost sub-prefecture, that of Hsiang-lin, corresponding roughly to the southern part of the present Vietnamese province of Thu’a-thien, that a native official founded in 192 the independent kingdom of Lin-Yi, later to be known by the name of Champa.
