Name taken by three rulers of the 11th Dynasty of Thebes (2125-1985 BC), particularly Intef II, also called Wahankh Intef (fl. 21st century BC), the second king of the dynasty (2081-1939 BC). During his long reign, he successfully warred against the allies of the Heracleopolitans--rulers of Middle and Lower (northern) Egypt composing the 9th and 10th dynasties. These three kings were buried in rock-cut tombs in the el-Tarif region in western Thebes. The others were Intef Sehertawy and Intef III Nakhtnebtepnefer.
