A test excavation in the Eanna district of Warka for study of the origins of writing in southern Mesopotamia. The site has an 18-level sequence from the 'Ubaid (XVIII-XV), Early Uruk (XIV-IX), Middle Uruk (VIII-VI), Late Uruk (V-IV), Jemdet Nasr (III), and Early Dynastic (II-I) periods. Cylinder seals, sealings, and written texts from Mesopotamian administrations were found here for the first time.
