A shaft-hole cutting tool which has two opposed (symmetrical) blades and is made of copper or bronze. With two cutting edges, it did not have to be sharpened as often as a single ax. The best-known examples are from Minoan Crete, where it was a practical tool and a cult symbol. The stone battleaxe is occasionally found in this form.
