Cemetery of the Early Bronze Age Nitra group in southwest Slovakia. 308 graves have been excavated by J.Vladdr, mostly simple rectangular pits, sometimes with a wooden lining, containing inhumation burials. An interesting study of the grave goods by Susan Shennan suggests that certain burials stand out as noticeably rich, on the basis of the rarity of the raw materials employed and the amount of time taken to produce the goods. Both males and females were buried with rich goods (more females) and it is suggested that women may have achieved their wealth through marriage. Some children’s burials were rich, suggesting that wealth was ascribed (inherited) rather than achieved.
