Temple mountain built by the Baphuon of Udayadityavarman II (reigned 1050-66 AD) in Angkor, Cambodia, unfortunately almost completely destroyed. It was a vast sandstone monument 480 yards (440 m) long and 140 yards (130 m) wide, approached by a 200-yard (180-m) causeway raised on pillars. Its ground plan shows a fully articulated structure and it was the immediate prototype for the great Angkor Wat. It was, at the time, the most massive artificial mountain of classical Cambodia and the second largest monument after Angkor Wat.

An enormous sandstone monument in the northwestern part of Angkor, Cambodia, built by king Udayadityavarman II (1050-66) as his temple-mountain and the centre of his capital. With its dimensions of 120 by 100 metres at the base and a height of 24 metres, this five-storeyed pyramid (topped originally by a tower of about the same height again) is the most massive artificial mountain of classical Cambodia and its second largest monument, after Angkor Wat. There are vigorous reliefs on the walls of the first and second storeys.
