A cave in central Bulgaria with a series of Mousterian levels (14 to 12) and then Upper Palaeolithic levels (11 to 3). The earliest Upper Palaeolithic levels have Aurignacian features. Backed blades appear towards the top. On the basis of radiocarbon and other indications, the earliest Upper Palaeolithic levels seem to be <43,000 bc, earlier than any known elsewhere.
