Mount southeast of BoghazkOy in northern Anatolia. The lowest stratum comprises eight Chalcolithic levels, beginning late in the 4th millennium bc. The Early Bronze Age levels are characterized by Alitar painted pottery, which was hand-made with a buff or light red burnish, sometimes with geometric patterns in dark brown or buff. Trading contacts with Assyria were established in the third phase of occupation, early in the 3rd millennium bc, and later a karum (see Kultepe) was built. A small number of Cappadocian tablets were recovered; these are a little later in date than the famous tablets from Kultepe, but their contents are similar.
