According to Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, only three examples of the brooch are known worldwide, and the one found in Troy is the best preserved.

Calling it “the most important discovery of the past 100 years,” Ersoy stated that the find, unearthed from the layers of the city of Troy II, dates back to around 2500 BC.

According to the Ministry, the brooch has put an end to debates about the starting date of Troy II. The statement also noted that the brooch was used as a symbol of social status and power.

In a statement on X, Ersoy also described the jade stone as “one of the luxury goods of 4,500 years ago.”

Both artifacts will soon be displayed at the Troy Museum.
