Tell site near Saqqiz in Azerbaijan, northwest Iran. It was a fortified city of the local Mannaeans in the 1st millennium bc. Very little scientific excavation has taken place, although the site has been looted over a long period. The most famous discovery is a hoard of gold, silver and ivory objects found in a bath-shaped coffin in 1947 by local villagers, and now dispersed in different museums in Iran and America. The hoard is dated to the late 7th century bc. Many stylistic influences are apparent in the style of these objects Assyrian, Urartian, Scythian and local.
