Themis

Themis held the exalted position of a Titan goddess, overseeing divine law and harmonious order, which encompassed the time-honored principles of conduct initially ordained by the gods. She also served as a prophetic deity, presiding over the most ancient oracles, including Delphoi (Delphi). In this capacity, she assumed the role of the divine utterance (themistes) that first imparted to humanity the fundamental laws of justice and ethics. These encompassed the tenets of reverence, the protocols of hospitality, equitable governance, proceedings in assembly, and the offerings of devotion to the divine. In the Greek lexicon, the term "themis" alluded to divine law, representing the enduring norms of conduct. Unlike "nomos," this phrase typically did not pertain to human-made legislation.
