"Kunstwollen" (translated as "artistic will", "will to art", or "the will of art") is a concept introduced by the Austrian art historian Alois Riegl. Developed in the late 19th century, this theory argues that artworks are shaped not merely by technical proficiency or the effort to imitate nature, but by a deliberate inclination that reflects the spirit of a particular era, its cultural values, and aesthetic preferences.
