Excavations in the Ancient City of Perge have uncovered five statues from different periods.

As part of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s "Heritage for the Future Project," excavations continue in the Ancient City of Perge, located in the Aksu district of Antalya.

According to a statement from the museum directorate affiliated with the ministry, a two-meter-tall statue of Aphrodite, which integrates with the figure of Eros sitting on a dolphin, has been dated to the 2nd century AD. The statue is believed to be a Roman Imperial-era replica.

Another statue uncovered next to the Aphrodite statue is 187 centimeters tall and depicts a clothed standing female figure.

The museum directorate’s statement regarding the statues is as follows:

"According to initial assessments, this statue exhibits characteristics of the Severan period. Additionally, in the same area, another clothed female statue with similar features was found in two pieces.

During excavations conducted on the city's eastern street, a clothed female statue and a clothed male statue were discovered side by side, making up the other two finds.

These discoveries provide new insights into Perge’s sculptural tradition and contribute to our understanding of the social structure and artistic production processes of the period."
